Amsterdam receive more than 18 million tourists in 2017


The municipal research office OIS expects that in 2016 the number of hotel stays will exceed 14 million. This is an increase of 9% compared to 2015. Including tourists who spend overnight in Airbnb in the city and day-care workers receive Amsterdam nearly 18 million visitors this year. By 2025, the municipality expects to be 23 million.

The number of hotel beds in Amsterdam has grown by 75%


To accommodate all hotel guests, hotels are being built at a fast pace. In the last ten years, the number of hotel beds in the city has grown by 75% to 67,095 in July 2016. The number of hotels grew much less in the same period, but the hotels that are added are on average on average. For example, there were 113 beds in Amsterdam in 2005, in 2016 it had grown to 147. The number of beds per room remained equal to an average of 2.2 beds.


More Germans, fewer Chinese tourists


The number of foreign overnight stays was slightly higher than the number of domestic stays, but the growth rate for both categories was about the same.
German hotel guests have topped the list for many years. In the first six months of 2016, the number of German overnight stays in hotels rose by 5 percent. The biggest growth was recorded among foreign guests: the amount of British and American overnight stays grew by 10 and 17 percent respectively.

Among destinations, Amsterdam has the most expensive hotels in the country. Travelers pay €142 on average for a night. This price has risen five percent compared to the same period last year.
