Culture and museums prove much more than a few years ago tourists visiting Amsterdam. The cultural history of the Old Town for 66 percent of visitors a reason to come to Amsterdam. In 2007, that figure was 38 percent. Half of the visitors believe that the offer of museums plays a role when visiting the capital. Four years ago it was a quarter.

This is evident from interviews of the Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board (ATCB) with more than 10,000 people have visited the capital and surrounding area last year. The ATCB conducted this examination once every four years among tourists, business and day trippers. The last time that happened in 2007.
A third of the visitors calls the reputation, atmosphere and coziness as reason to Amsterdam. The presence of soft drugs coffeeshops and plays for 16.5 percent of visitors a role. In 2007 it was 7.3 percent. Shopping other hand has become less important.
Compared to four years ago, tourists also appear to have a lot busier. They take an average of 10.2 operations per visit, compared with a mere 6.8 in 2007. Topping the list of activities are walking around in the city (95 percent), visiting museums (85 percent) and eating out (70 percent).
The figure that visitors to give Amsterdam, has remained unchanged: 8.1. People are satisfied with the atmosphere, the compactness of the city and its architecture, but are less enthusiastic about the crowds, the multitude of cycling, the mess in the street and the price level.
The Amsterdam visitor economy is estimated to have a turnover of 5.7 billion and more than 50,400 full-time jobs.
